IMG X CBS INTERACTIVE

On November 23, 2009, Andrew Chun, Wharton MBA grad and product manager at CBS Interactive, sat down with a small group of IMG members for an intimate talk to discuss the changing face of digital media strategy. Over a cup of coffee and some gelato, Chun shared his experience working with some of the biggest media companies in the world, including CBS Interactive, Verizon Wireless, ESPN Digital Media, AOL Sports and more.  With a particular interest in mobile applications, Chun answered questions relating to cellular media, changing the discussion to completely suit the interest of members. The talk allowed for an up-close and personal information session on marketing in the new digital age, leaving members not only with a contact into the industry, but also a better sense of how media companies are adapting to changing times.

Frank Eliason of @ComcastCares comes to Penn!

The IMG proudly hosted a session on social media yesterday at the Wharton Undergraduate Marketing Conference with Senior Director in National Customer Operations at Comcast, Frank Eliason.

Frank and his team monitor and respond to customer posts on a variety of online channels, and spend each day reviewing 6,000 blog posts and more than 1,000 Tweets. Frank’s model of interacting with customers online has become a case study for how corporations should incorporate social media.
Frank spoke to students about the importance of public brands engaging consumers via social media and provided an inside look on how he and his team strategically manage their presence across various media. He discussed how invaluable his presence on Twitter has been for gathering feedback on new launches, PR, customer retention, and Comcast’s reputation. Frank is truly a leader in the social media space and a great case study that many brands look to when creating their own presences.

Breakfast with serial entrepreneur Joseph Ansanelli

On October 21, the Interactive Media Group hosted a breakfast with accomplished entrepreneur and Wharton alumnus, Joseph Ansanelli, W’92. He spoke about following one’s passion and the challenges of finding great people and building an organization from the ground up. Students with a range of backgrounds and experiences were interested in how to break into the start-up world. When asked about the advantages of the traditional career path of consulting versus working at a tech company, Ansanelli responded, “Think about what you want to do. Do you want to be telling someone how to do something, or actually be out there doing something?”
