What is a Geo Hunt??

A geo hunt is our fancy way of saying scavenger hunt. We’re combining the tools of new location based services like SCVNGR and Venmo to let players interact with the hunt using SMS. Players will get daily clues that will lead them to locations on campus where they can unlock and win money!

What you’ll be using

You’ll be using two cell phone services called SCVNGR and Venmo. Don’t worry, no crazy install required!

SCVNGR will be used to deliver clues to you via SMS. You’ll also answer the clues by replying to the text message.

Venmo will be used for you to redeem Venmo cash prizes. You’ll be able to use Venmo to pay back friends or pay for orders at food trucks! Say goodbye to cash!

How do I sign up?

If you are interested in playing, sign up here to join the fun and then pull out your phone and text imgday2 to 728647. Be sure to join Venmo here so that you can claim your cash prizes!

How Your Score Is Calculated

Total score = SCVNGR points x (1 + # of invites)

How Do I Invite People?

You can invite people in two ways. You get $1 for ever invite accepted.

You can invite people on the spot using your phone. Simply send a text message to VENMO (646.863.9557) with “Invite FriendsPhoneNumber or FriendsEmail”

OR

You can invite them through venmo.com. When you login to your venmo account on venmo.com, there is an “Invite Friends” link that lets you invite friends by email address.

How it works

When you first join the game, you receive a starting balance of several dollars in your Venmo account to use throughout the game. Then the hunt begins!

You get a clue via SMS from SCVNGR:

Clue: Which restaurant on campus was recently opened by a celebrity chef?

Submit your answer via SMS to SCVNGR:

Your reply: Bobby’s Burger Palace

If your answer is correct, SCVNGR responds:

Correct! Here’s your challenge to prove that you’ve gotten there. What is the price of the Crunchburger?

So now you trek over to Bobby’s Burger Palace to find their menu prices and you send your answer via SMS to SCVNGR:

Your reply: 7.50

If your answer is correct, SCVNGR responds:

Correct! The first 20 people to answer win a prize! To see if you’ve won, Text “Claim didiwin” to Venmo. Your next clue should arrive shortly.

So now you text “Claim didiwin” to  Venmo to see if you won. Venmo responds with:

You’ve won $2!

Great! You just snagged $2. Now wait a few moments for your next clue so you can go win more money!
